Tricon Garage had a dominant showing at Darlington Raceway on Friday night, with its No. 5 Toyota claiming victory in the Buckle Up South Carolina 200 via a dramatic last-lap pass on Ross Chastain in double overtime.
The win was a masterclass in team strategy. With three laps left in regulation, the Tricon crew made a bold call to pit for scuffed tires that were five laps fresher than the competition, dropping their truck to 15th. Through two overtime periods, superior tire management did the work, ultimately securing the pass for the win through Turns 3 and 4 on the final lap.
It marks back-to-back victories at Darlington for the Tricon organization, which also fielded the No. 11 truck — last year's championship-winning machine — with Kaden Honeycutt behind the wheel. Honeycutt led a race-high 59 laps and showed strong pace throughout, finishing fourth after the top lane proved unfavorable on the final restart. Honeycutt even acknowledged working to funnel the win toward his Tricon teammate in the closing laps.
The victory also earned Tricon Garage a $50,000 Triple Truck Challenge bonus, with a potential $150,000 prize on the line if the No. 5 returns at Rockingham on April 3.
